My theory about that is only gay changelings get the sparkly wings. Think about it. Thorax is taught the true meaning of love by a male, which makes his wings sparkle at first, and this knowledge of true love goes on to give him the colors of the gay pride flag, fairy wings, a ladybug carapace, jewelry, and stag antlers. Dude’s gay, and not like Lyra and Bon Bon gay either, I mean like he’s an absolute flaming faaaaaaabulous homo XD

If he’s in the “just friends” stage, he wings should at least be sparkling.

He saw being forced by Thorax to change his appearance and way of life to be no different than being forced by Chrysalis to steal love and invade, so he kept his normal appearance and turned his back on them. He’s sick of being told to live his life for others and wants to live the way HE wants instead :P
If these two love each other, why is Prattle still a black changeling?

I envy yun’s that have a normal biochemistry. While mine metabolizes alcohol VERY quickly, I get very sick if I have any form of caffeine within a few hours span of drinking, be it beer or liquor.
