Next in the Dawnverse headcanon, the SugarMac family!

No major changes here: just more freckles for the foals who have them. Most of the changes are with the story of the family (it gets long, fair warning). Below is some information on the SugarMac family:

Big Mac:
As the only stallion in his Apple family and the oldest of his siblings, Big Mac always felt he had certain obligations he could only fulfill. As Granny Smith started showing her elder age, Big Mac felt especially responsible for the family farm, even with his sisters by his side. The only relief Big Mac felt from the work on the farm was through his marefriend, SugarBelle. Every few days, after a diligent day of hard farm work, Big Mac escaped to Ponyville and visited SugarBelle for some sweet rest, even if sometimes that sweet rest ended in a heated argument with the stallion storming back home. At first, Granny Smith merely watched her grandson and his relationship; however, the matriarch of the Apple family felt that she needed to talk to her grandson. Granny Smith warned Big Mac that he needed to stay a proper and responsible stallion with SugarMac. Big Mac followed his grandmother’s warning, at least partially. A few weeks after a particularly special night, SugarBelle went to Big Mac announcing her pregnancy with his foal. From this, Granny Smith forced Big Mac to marry SugarBelle, claiming this was the responsible and traditional route. At first, the moments of having a new wife and child brought joy to Big Mac; however, the issues that seemed minor before suddenly became inescapable. There were tender moments for the new family, and there were tense moments of fights and words flying around. Big Mac quickly felt trapped even more than he did before his marriage: unlike before where he could escape the hardships of life, his escape became his hardships. The supposed disappearance of SugarBelle to tend to her ailing father, and her lack of return for months, plus the death of Granny Smith, only exacerbated the frustration of Big Mac. SugarBelle’s supposed abandonment of the Apple family drove Big Mac to seek relief and love from elsewhere, into the hooves of a dear friend, Cheeriliee. When SugarBelle returned to Sweet Apple Acres one day out of the blue, Big Mac ended his secret affair with Cheerilee; however, even though SugarBelle never found out about the affair, the stallion carried guilt heavy on his shoulders. Guilt from dishonoring the late Granny Smith’s traditional values, plus from cheating on his wife after thinking she would ever abandon him and their son, grew heavier with each passing day, and from this Big Mac decided to push his feelings and emotion aside, instead continuing his obligations to the family, which included providing an heir to his ownership of the family farm. Big Mac gave the Apple family more foals, each one not having the apple talent he needed for his own heir to Sweet Apple Acres. Big Mac places most of his hopes and secret anxiety in his youngest foal, hoping her talent will finally bring solace to the stallion.

As a father, Big Mac acts more as a sire than a genuine father. Big Mac works hard to provide for his family; however, years of conflicted feelings and guilt caused the large stallion to grew more stoic with the years. Big Mac loves his children dearly, but sometimes he forgets to both feel and show emotion towards his family. With each foal born, Big Mac felt warm at first, but grew more distant as they grew up. No one seems to be able to get to the core of this apple anymore.

Fun Facts:
- Big Mac eventually serves as a co-owner of Sweet Apple Acres alongside his sisters Applejack and Appleblooom after the death of Granny Smith.
- Just like his Apple siblings, Big Mac is a quarter Clydesdale, so exhibit taller and sturdier bodies and furrier fetlocks.
- Big Mac is a stallion of few words even around his wife and children.
- Although he ended the affair years prior, Big Mac secretly still feels more emotionally involved with Cheerilee over his wife SugarBelle.

SugarBelle:
After the fall of Starlight’s rule in her village and the start of a romantic fling with Big Mac, SugarBelle eventually made her way to Ponyville to hopefully stay closer to her coltfriend. SugarBelle’s relationship with Big Mac had both ups and downs: the two ponies genuinely loved each other, however their passion was both loving and harsh, often ending nights in frustration from a lack of communication. The issues between Big Mac and SugarBelle continued into their marriage shortly after SugarBelle confronted Big Mac with her pregnancy. The birth of Swamp Apple served as a temporary mask of pure happiness for the couple: SugarBelle still loved her husband and of course her child, however, the mare felt trapped on the farm. The couple raised their son on the apple farm until one day when SugarBelle received a letter in the mail stating her family’s insistence for the mare to return to the family estate for her father’s final moments. SugarBelle left Sweet Apple Acres for the Belle Estate, claiming she would return in a few weeks. Weeks turned into months as, after the surprising yo-yo of her father’s health, the Belle family discovered her life on Sweet Apple Acres, her hick husband and bastard child, and aimed to destroy the marriage. The Belle family intercepted SugarBelle’s letters to Big Mac, making the stallion fear his wife abandoned him and their son. After months of silence from her farm family, SugarBelle learned of her family’s deception and left for Sweet Apple Acres without a second word. SugarBelle returned to the family farm unaware of what happened behind closed doors with her husband, instead fully believing that Big Mac waited by the window for his wife to return like their son. After a tearful reunion, the couple returned to their normal lives, welcoming foal after foal after foal.

As a mother, SugarBelle is a gentle and motherly soul. SugarBelle always wanted a large family since she herself grew up in a large family, and so grew more excited with each foal she delivered. SugarBelle is not exactly naive about her family: although SugarBelle never learned of her husband’s affair, the mare sometimes felt suspicious as to her husband’s insistence in both working and producing as many heirs as possible. SugarBelle knows of her husband’s obligations to produce an apple heir to his place on the farm; however, she does not appreciate Big Mac’s lack of attention and emotion towards the “non-successful” children. To compensate for her husband’s emotional abandonment, SugarBelle treats her children equally special, often serving as two parents in one.

Fun Facts:
- SugarBelle is the shortest adult in her Apple family.
- SugarBelle is part of the esteemed and wealthy Belle Family, an Equestrian elite family with recorded roots going back generations. However, SugarBelle basically renounced her familial relations after they trapped her in the family estate in an attempt to separate her from Big Mac and Swamp.
- SugarBelle still makes bakery food, owning a small stand on the apple farm where she sells cupcakes, tarts, pies, and etc.
- Despite what she tells herself, SugarBelle no longer feels romantically close to her husband: the mare puts up a facade for her family and towards Big Mac while involved in the night.

Swamp Apple:
Swamp Apple is the eldest child of Big Mac and SugarBelle. His birth stirred up happiness at Sweet Apple Acres: the Apple family line continued! No Apple was more excited to meet Swamp than Granny Smith: the older mare, feeling her age in her bones, dotted on the newest apple. Granny watched the colt as his family worked on the farm chores, the old mare sharing her life stories with the young colt as he giggled from a passing butterfly. Swamp never knew of sadness during his young years, even when his mother left and did not seem to return or when his father spent his nights with Cheerilee. Swamp only felt sadness when his Granny Smith passed away one night underneath the intertwined Pear and Apple tree deep in the orchard. After this moment, Swamp began observing his world around him, quickly realizing that not everything was as shiny as a new apple. When his mother SugarBelle surprisingly returned one day, Swamp felt elated once again, ignoring the tension his parents felt for each other. As Swamp grew up and welcomed new siblings, the green colt once again observed the world around him and finally noticed his parent’s feelings towards their family life. Swamp felt the distance growing between him and his father, as well as the growing devotion from guilt from his mother. Soon Swamp felt almost lonely despite his large family, especially once he gained his cutie mark in fishing, not anything apple related like what was expected of him. As he grew older and larger, Swamp felt his loneliness creep further into his thoughts, eventually channeling this isolated feeling into a relaxed demeanor: if he could not become the apple his father wanted, he would just relax by the pond and simply not care.

Fun Facts:
- Swamp Apple is the tallest member of his Apple family (barely taller than his father).
- Swamp sports hidden muscular strength rivaling his father; however, the stallion does not use his muscles for bucking, instead favoring the gentility of fishing.
- Swamp has a hidden singing talent: he often sings country songs while fishing by the pond.

Azalea Apple:
Azalea Apple is the second eldest child of Big Mac and SugarBelle. The Apple family once again welcomed a new apple with Azalea, one as beautiful as a flower. Azalea quickly had her parents wrapped around her hoof, especially her father Big Mac. During her young filly years, Azalea felt attracted to the beauty of nature, but not necessarily apples, instead enjoying the garden of beautiful flowers. Azalea volunteered herself to do the farm chores revolving around the garden, much to the joy of mother SugarBelle who found solace in her garden. When Azalea gained her cutie mark in gardening flowers, the little magenta mare quickly felt the relationship between her father and herself become more strained. Of course the two ponies loved each other like any parent and child; however, Azalea could not deny that her father shifted his focus to his farm work once she started her own garden. Hoping to gain her father’s attention, Azalea felt that even though her talent was not in apples, it does not mean her talent was not as beautiful as his apples. Azalea aims to create the most beautiful garden in Ponyville, secretly hoping that Big Mac would notice and feel closer to his daughter again. This is not to say Azalea is deeply wounded by her father’s lack of full attention: Azalea herself loves beauty and being around her large family, especially her talented cousin Honey Apple, the apple with the most beautiful voice.

Fun Facts:
- Azalea is a Southern Belle through and through: she refuses to talk in a “southern twang” and to participate in any activity that involves dirt, mud, or sweat (unless it involves flowers).
- Azalea resembles her great grandmother, Madame Rose Belle, even sharing a similar talent. SugarBelle refuses to talk about her Belle Family to Azalea in the hopes the mare will never join the elite family.
- Azalea takes great pride in her appearance: she refuses to be seen without conducting her morning beauty ritual. Azalea is a great fan of mud masks (the only mud she will have tough her) and spa treatments.
- Azalea dreams of being whisked away from her farm life by a handsome prince who will give her a castle and a beautiful garden to tend to all day: maybe she just wants the castle and garden.
Freckle Trick:
Freckle Trick is the middle child and second son of Big Mac and SugarBelle. Named for the freckles that litter his face, Freckle was a buckin’ bronco since infancy, running around kicking up dust with his little hooves around Sweet Apple Acres. Once again, Big Mac had hopes that his foal would finally gain a talent in apple farming and be his heir; however, every pony but Big Mac knew that Freckle was anything but as responsible as his father. Freckle acted more like his Uncle Braeburn, especially when anything involved a lasso. As a young colt doing apple farm chores, Freckle used his gifted lasso to wrangle the apples of the trees instead of bucking like every other apple pony. Freckle loved showing off his tricks and rodeo skills, much to both the entertainment and annoyance of his family. Freckle never seemed to care about what others thought about him: what he cared about was kicking up dust and swinging his lasso. Freckle gained his cutie mark in rodeo quickly, causing Big Mac to once again emotionally abandon Freckle. At first the small colt was hurt that his father would rather work than watch his little shows; however, similarly to his much larger brother, Freckle simply shrugged the distance off. Freckle even seemed to physically distance himself from both Big Mac and the apple orchards, instead begging his parents to allow him to spend his summers in Appleoosa with Uncle Braeburn catching the latest rodeo show. Instead, Freckle is merely content with trotting around Ponyville, occasionally visiting his friend Moonstone Voice and flustering the unicorn with his signature smirk and tricks.

Fun Facts:
- Freckle will be the shortest member of his Apple family, barely growing to his mother’s height.
- Freckle gave himself his own nickname “The Freckled Foal” to use during rodeos. He is also developing his own rodeo theme song.
- Freckle loves making both mares and stallions fluster. His favorite “victim” is his friend Moonstone Voice who seems to fluster easily around the tan stallion.
- Freckle is able to use his lasso with his tail, much like his Aunt Applejack.
- Freckle is quite talented in BuckBall like his Uncle Braeburn: Freckle feels that if the rodeo never works out, he could always be a BuckBall player.

Peony Pear:
Peony Pear is the youngest child and second daughter of Big Mac and SugarBelle. Unlike her siblings, Peony seems to be the pony the apple family, especially Big Mac, secretly wanted and needed. While SugarBelle was pregnant with Peony, Grandpear moved permanently to Sweet Apple Acres to be closer to his remaining family. Watching SugarBelle devour pears and have unexplained surges of magic, the elder Grandpear knew that his newest grandchild was going to be the prodigal child for both the Apple and Pear family. Grandpear even named the new unicorn filly the day she was born, knowing she would be great someday. Despite her lack of an apple name, the Apple family welcomed Peony into the family. Once Peony learned to walk, there was no stopping the filly of exploring every nook and cranny of the apple orchard, the gardens, end even the Everfree Forest. The filly seems to have a fascination with the plants that grow from the earth beneath her hooves, much to the secret elated hope of Big Mac. Peony is completely oblivious and carefree about her father’s hopes for her, as well as the very real and present world around her. Peony loves experimenting with her magic, often having purposeful magical surges that send the filly into a fit of giggles. When she is not playing with her magic, Peony is chasing fireflies, enjoying the sunshine, and helping out on the apple farm.

Fun Facts:
- Peony always has a messy mane, sometimes sporting leaves. Azalea tries to tame her sister’s mane, much to the frustration of the filly.
- Peony prefers pears over apples, but don’t tell Big Mac.
- Peony shows tremendous talent in natural magic. Princess Twilight is already considering writing a letter of recommendation for the filly to attend the School for Gifted Unicorns to better harness her magic.
- Peony loves bugs: she will let every kind of bug crawl all over her legs and mane. She especially loves spooking her sister Azalea with a spider or beetle.
- Peony is quite clumsy, often tripping and tumbling over her own hooves.
