Greetings, fellow yak enthusiasts! Welcome to a special and… surreal… edition of my Season 8 Homework Assignments! Today’s comic is based on Yakity-Sax. …This episode was just okay. While I greatly appreciate and can relate to the moral of doing something you enjoy even if you’re not necessarily good at it (why do you think I keep making comics?), I feel like there were problems in the execution.
I think my main issue is that they never really addressed the REAL problem: the trigger that caused the Mane 6 to tell Pinkie to stop playing wasn’t that they felt Pinkie was wasting her time like Twilight implied, but that she was being really obnoxious about where and when she played. Of course she should be able to play the Yovidaphone to her heart’s content if it makes her happy, but when I make comics and share them on the internet, I don’t try and force people to look at them, especially when doing so would be an inconvenience to their time or current activities. Being selfless enough to recognize the consequences of my actions and how they affect others is a lesson I’ve had to learn and follow for decades, and I guess it just bugged me that they completely glossed over that for the sake of making Pinkie happy. That and the fact that Pinkie is STILL refusing to address her abandonment issues and grow as a character. …The extension of yak culture was pretty cool, though!
But I digress. So, the comic. This is actually a continuation to THIS comic I made a couple months ago regarding my headcanon to how leaks and early releases are handled by the ponies, particularly Applejack. …I know these aren’t TECHNICALLY leaks, but its still episodes being released to the public MUCH earlier than their supposed to, in rapid succession and great quantity. I actually considered making a comic like this back when Yakity-Sax FIRST debuted… 5 weeks early as a part of Discovery Family’s “Summer Surprises” event, but I wanted to conserve my energy for the ATG. Considering the fact that the ENTIRE SEASON is now apparently viewable in some way or another, I feel like this comic is more relevant now than ever. I feel so bad for Applejack right now.
I could go into how much I DESPISE all these early releases and what they do to the Brony community as a whole, but this description is long enough already. Hope you were able to put up with my rambling, and know that I STILL consider this the greatest show ever made, even if I complain sometimes. On to the next episode!
Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Twilight Sparkle, and My Little Pony belong to Hasbro and DHX.
