No, it really wasn’t. It destroyed two seasons’ worth of story and build-up for the sake of a Spike episode.

You continuously act like they had to, is that that you couldn’t just let it be that they may have acknowledged it off screen is what puts a giant hole in your argument.
 
The glacier was big enough to be threatening to crush everyone in the stadium and was slowly growing.
 
The fact that it changed the color shouldn’t be that big of an issue, and yet here you are whining about how apparently that one little tidbit eclipses literally everything else.
 
also, so what if you animation errors slipped in every now and then? That doesn’t automatically erase another characters worth. That I bet you feel the need to bring this up as some flimsy defense on while you’re beating every episode where Spike does something of worth over the head pretty much shows that you’re losing any actual ground you had to stand on.
 
And as for him believing that dragon, last I checked, they didn’t exactly have a way to confirm if he was lying or not. So what’s your excuse there?
 
Like I said before, you don’t want him to suddenly be a good character, you just want an excuse to whine about how the show apparently abuses him.
 
and as for your little reason that the end? Too bad, because that’s what it comes off as. Because you literally can’t be bothered to acknowledge anything else aside from him being a comedic relief every now and then and apparently that’s somehow I enough to equate to him being abused by the show. So yes, you are still hating on him, because you’re pretending that literally eclipses everything else he’s done he’s not allowed to have a bit of an emotional weakness or a bit of an animation error somehow makes his contributions worthless.

I didn’t say they need to mention it non stop. I would have liked someone, anyone, mentioning it OUTSIDE of that episode in a positive light. It didn’t happen. Twilights parents were present during her princess coronation and shedding tears.  
 
In fact, this is perfect to compare it to. Note how everyone treats twilight with respect and admiration after said ascension and there is a big celibration? What is the reaction to Spike’s change? Zecora heartily thanks him, Rarity is deaf, and twilight says congrats. Now, what about after the hubub of the transformation? Is he treated any better? Does anyone give him so much as a cupcake? No, he gets told to stop riding twilight’s back, becomes a coathanger, and the change is subsequently ignored. It’s not even said in passing that anything so much as pat him on the back after that day.
 

 
They didn’t need to. They could have had Spike yawn in the following episode with his line being “Oops, sorry, still tired from that party Pinkie threw me over me getting my wings.” BOOM problem solved and indicates the others cared offscreen, but no they didn’t.
 

 
The glacier was actually not that large. It wasn’t even big enough to cover the floor of the stadium, and yes, fire can change color in terms of intensity. Know what color it would change if green fire got much hotter? WHITE. It wasn’t white.

Spike has LOADS of reasons to believe every dragon other than Ember is untrustworthy. Did you not watch dragon quest or gauntlet of fire where dragons openly use and abuse each other? He needed to question it and he didn’t because his brain fell out because they needed to pad the rest of the episode with spike doing slave work for fatty while fatty lies all episode.
 

 
Yeah, how dare I want to see Spike retain some of his knowledge of the reality of the world that has routinely slapped every cast member time and again. Someone should totally stop me.
 

 
Maybe if you actually paid attention to just about anything I’ve been saying, you’d understand that:  
1: I’m not hating on Spike.  
2: I am aware when a writer does NOT know Spike’s character and fails at portraying him correctly.  
3: I’m not hating on Spike.  
4: I’ve been very willing to agree when an episode has written him well.  
5: I’m not hating on Spike.  
6: I’m not blaming occasional pratfalls and gags as random hate towards Spike.

the characters that were present reacted to it and we can easily assume that his friends had similar reactions to his wings off screen. By that logic you might as well say that Twilight’s parents didn’t care much for her Ascension because we don’t see their overall reactions, we don’t need everybody pointing it out and every single episode after he gets the wings.
 
So stop whining about not everybody reacting to his wings just because they didn’t automatically show it.
 
And as for the fire being a different color? Once again, the amount of strength needed to utilize fire that intensity comes into play. The lock was small. The storm guards we’re pretty easy to torch compared to a giant Glacier the size of a stadium.
 
The fire was a different color, get over it.
 
That’s why I’m not questioning his “dad”? Gee, maybe it’s because he hasn’t had any kind of reason to think about his parents up into the point where someone shows up out of the blue claiming to be his parent? Celestia and Twilight don’t really know where his egg came from, so they didn’t really have a reason to suspect him of lying common or any way to prove that he was.
 
But no, how DARE Spike want to actually have a biological part of his family! Clearly it couldn’t have been a moment of emotional vulnerability! It just has to be the writerstreating him like dirt again!
 
so I’ll say it again, stop pretending that literally any moment spike has a bit of emotional weakness or anything of the sort he’s automatically being picked on by the writers. It’s getting annoying.
