If I remember correctly, rather than being one of the timelines from “The Cutie Re-Mark”, this is one where Nightmare Moon defeated Celestia from the get-go and has been ruling Equestria for a thousand years unopposed. The story is set around the beginning of Season 1, right now. Thus, Nightmare Moon wouldn’t have interacted with Discord in any real capacity yet.
 
A thought regarding villains that just occurred to me: the Pony of Shadows was stated, in “Shadow Play”, to be powered by places of darkness and thus weakened by awakening in an Equestria where most dark and dreary places had become settled and pleasant places. In an Equestria blanketed under a thousand years of unbroken darkness, though… it does not seem that these places would be quite as scarce.

Agreed, not to mention the fact that there’s also little to no evidence of Nightmare being as benevolent towards her subjects as she is to Twilight, or the fact that even if she was able to somehow use her magic to make Equestria adapt to a permanent night, Nightmare Moon has essentially doomed Equestria since raising the sun would probably kill off/weaken most of the population.
 
Think about it, suppose Discord gets free and decides to “shed a little light” on Equestria for shits and giggles? And before you say she probably dealt with him, you need to remember that her timeline came in before Discord’s, so by this logic not only is Discord still out there, but in his own time when he successfully defeated her.
 
Then there’s the fact that the ecological system would suddenly go nuts and everything would start dying off, why? Because they haven’t adapted to the sun in years due to Nightmare forcing the world to adapt to a night only environment, an issue that they wouldn’t have to deal with if Nightmare hadn’t brought about Eternal Night and forced them to adapt to that said lifestyle.
 
Hell, it’s confirmed that unicorns were able to raise the sun themselves in the past before the sisters came along, who’s to say that other powerful entities such as the Storm King or Tirek (both of whom have powerful magic, or at the very least enough to rival the Royal Sisters) won’t simply raise the sun to weaken the inhabitants and then easily conquer them?
 
All it’ll take is someone with enough power to take control of the Sun and everyone would be at their Mercy. Nightmare may be powerful, but she’s still just one Mare, and she’s pretty much placed Equestria to a more vulnerable state.
 
Then there’s the upcoming villains and those here who say that Nightmare can perfectly handle them all on her own. No she can’t, and here’s why:
 
Discord:  
Considering the fact that shattering his statue is not an option since that would just free him again (and if it were that easy they would have done it a long time ago), and NM sure as hell doesn’t have the elements on her side since they disconnected themselves from her and Celestia after their fight, it’s more than likely that he hasn’t feed himself yet but eventually will…. and NM ain’t gonna be a match for him with the Elements.
 
Queen Chrysalis:  
I doubt Cadence would have had her wedding since she’d probably be locked away or on the run due to her connection to Celestia herself, so no Chrysalis wedding plot. And the Queen would probably be on the down low and would be perfectly fine with simply kidnapping innocent civilians for the Hive to drain since it’d be easier for them to abduct civilians in the shadows of the night, which is eternal. So it’s possible that she’s actually an even bigger threat then when Celestia was in control.
 
King Sombra:  
It took both Celestia and Luna to deal with him, and that’s not even getting into the horrible blizzard surrounding said Empire that both of them couldn’t push back.
 

 
The only villians I can really see being defeated completely by her alone is Tirek and possibly the Storm King.
 
Nightmare is strong, but she isn’t that high on the power scale since the only way she was able to blindside Celestia was because she was holding back since she was fighting against her sister, this is more than likely why she was able to seal her away in thit timeline. So it’s too big and assumption to say that she somehow beat someone who could only be defeated by said elements.

It wouldn’t stop being that – fundamentally, the characters, their relationships with each other, the world and the story itself are all going to be marked by the Nightmare having ruled Equestria for a thousand years. This isn’t going to be undone by the Nightmare’s overthrowing. If she were to be defeated, this would still be a setting where Nightmare Moon won and ruled for a thousand years.
 
I can’t speak for anyone else, but the reason I want to see the Nightmare defeated is because, past her personal quirkiness and her quips and her flirting with Twilight, she’s still clearly presented as a psychic parasite and self-centered despot who possessed Luna, imprisoned her and Celestia because they were obstacles to her power, lied about history to paint Celestia as the power-hungry traitor, biologically altered her entire species to soothe her own ego and turned Equestria into what by all appearances seems to be an outright police state. Nightmare Moon, above all else, is still a villain and a very evil person. She shouldn’t be allowed to get away with all the horrible things she’s done just because she’s interesting.

I love how it was everybody is just pleading for Luns to stay locked away in the subconscious and let the Tyrant rule over an obviously dying Equestria….

Wonder if Luna might take back enough control that it could be a 50/50 split between her and Nightmare Moon. Enough that she can help combat the villians to come.

I agree. I very much look forward to seeing more of this more defiant, proactive take on Luna – and I also wouldn’t mind seeing the Nightmare taken down a peg or three.

I actually want to see Twilight tell Nightmare, like a good little subject. Watching Nightmare take the villains head on is sure to be epic, but each confrontation ends more destructively than the last until Twilight’s confidence wanes, and she’ll defy her out of concern her beloved ruler is in over her head, incurring her wrath by going behind her back to spare her her fate.

I agree with BGP#C2F1 with both things, I kind of like Luna being someone who’s now trying to fix what she horribly started instead of skulking around and acting within the realm of “Emo”. I’m also not entirely accepting for Nightmare to stay on that throne. Mostly because I know her type of attitude and character enough to know that her reign would be a failure and her being the last empress.
 
And in the quotes of my favorite emperor in one game, “The Last emperor is always the Worst.”

Make that 99%.  
If things stayed the way they were we’d get “Nightmare Moon bosses ponies around” - the comic. Now we got “Punished Luna” waging war from her dreamscape prison. I also really like this Luna, who unlike the more popular “I was evil once and because of that I’m now saaad!” version of her character, is full of determination and ready to go through hell to get back what she lost.

Come on, this is Silfoe we’re talking about. You knew what you were getting into. Besides it’s still a bit early to complain about Tuna since they don’t seem to get along well right now.

Okay, before, you had my curiosity….. but now you have my attention.

Please stay as Nightmare… It’s what 100% of us are interested in.

I feel like it’s inevitable that Moonset is going to turn into another Luna/Twilight comic. Don’t get me wrong, I ship the hell out of those two, but it’s really not what I wanted to see from this one.

I love luna more than most, but I gotta echo another persons comment on a previous picture, I hope it stays nightmare moon as the glorious leader, I love this alt universe silfoe has made.
 
The obvious solution Is to bring Celestia back as Daybreaker and they can rule “together” :D
