To be fair, I really like them both, especially Cadance. I like how her element and overall niceness is juxtaposed with her battle abilities; she’s a real badass. That scene in the Movie where she protects Celestia from Tempest is superb!

…even the most epic story fails if the characters lack flaws, emotional arcs, conflics, needs and backstories. We know so little about SA and Cadance it’s difficult to be emotionally involved.

well, some would call them mouthpieces, luring us into believing that obsessive parenting is the norm, making real parents feel guilty for having a social life, weakening our local communities.
 
there is also the fact that two of them are alicorn princesses for no reason.

And they are making a good job, because neither Crystal Empire nor Flurry Heart seem to suffer from this “juggle”. They don’t have to make any difficult choices. They don’t have to sacrifice anything except some sleep and sanity, as every other parent. They have help. Their marriage is doing just fine.
 
I’m not saying this is bad. It could be good slice of life. And comedy. Hijinks are great.
 
But if you want to know why people are not drawn to it… well, every good story needs a conflict. When things are perfect, they are not exciting.
 
But of course, I’m sure there are stories out there that can make it more exciting, explore a little bit all the angels - orphaned alicorn princess, a Knight and their overpowered child babysat with geeky wizard. I would read it, especially since I like good Cadance stories. But what we have in the show as it is, is not perhaps as inspiring.

Hasbro literally made an episode about Cadance and Shining Armor being imperfect and drama about raising a baby while ruling the Crystal Empire. From a storyteller point of view, Cadance and Shining Armor write themselves:
 
Busy mommy and daddy juggle work while raising superpowered kid. Rotate/mix in other characters/magic. Hijinks ensue. Done.

Now, there is no need to call it stupid. And there is no need to subscribe to just one label either. That’s the fun with those two. Their bond is so ambiguous.  
Remove one of those labels and you loose something that makes their relationship so fun to watch.
 
You have best pals vibes, sibling vibes and Co-workers vibes and you also have some Mother-son vibes. The latter steams from them fact that Twilight seems to be the only parent-like figure Spike has and truly cares about, and from time to time she acts like a parent would. She used to suck at it and right now she’s pretty good at it, assuming you have watched above s3.
 
As for my story I have explained why it had to be Twilight, but I also hinted that her family was present when Spike was growing up.
 
And of course entire story is orchestrated by Sombra to make sure what they both forgot that one bad day was offsetted by ten great days. Just like in life :)

I don’t know why community dislikes them, I don’t of course - but from a storyteller point of view there is not much to tell about them and only adding Sunburst to the mix made it somehow interesting. They are very perfect and there is no conflict at all, while relationship between Spike and Twilight is multilayered, complicated and thus have potential to create drama between those two we viewers may really care about.

Yeah I talked about this on the DA post. This page alone indeed shows why the mother-son relationship between Spike and Twilight doesn’t work and I love their relationship. It’s my favorite in the show.
 
Though I have to wonder if she couldn’t handle taking care of Spike as a foal, then why in the scene where she left Spike alone at the library she beg and plead to Celestia not to take him away from her? Of course this probably plays into Sombra’s manipulation of Twilight’s fears by thinking sending Spike away is what’s best for him.

Meanwhile, the community despises Cadance/Shining Armor/Flurry Heart despite being the most practical and responsible couple of the cast. And don’t bring up Mr. and Mrs. Cake cause they hired Pinkie Pie as a babysitter.

This is why I don’t like Twilight being Spike’s mom, it just brings so many problems, not to mention it makes all the adults seem like irresponsible idiots giving a child another child to raise, a child that isn’t even the same species, and yet everyone seems to like the thought of Twilight and Spike being mother and son while I always thought it was stupid.
