The book's largely about testing Job, to see if he truly loves God or not; to see if Job is only praising God since things are going well for Job, unlike Job's wife who said "Curse God and die" shortly after the good things (Job's livelihood and their children, and more, IIRC) went out the door. Mind, I don't think I understand the whole book, but that _is_ how it starts out.
Or would you rather see Churches who spend their congregation money not to help people and help the needy, but spend it on a stupid private jet of luxury for absolutely no one but themselves? The likeness of such (having excess, having luxury without helping people) was one of the sins of Sodom.
Job's sad days are kinda like testing gold for its purity. Is it real, or is it a fake?
