if an important and well loved character has to die for the narrative to work right then a simple bit of advice i can offer is 'make it count' make that death mean something extremely important tot he story as a whole perhaps a heroic sacrifice, or a galvanizing call to action for the other characters whatever it is if someone who has been there for most of the story has to bite it, every second of time lost with them needs must be repaid with narrative weight as much as i hated that glory did in fact die, her death did have meaning both times, where as p21...that was bullshit...truth being told everything that happend on the moon was bullshit that was a poorly written segment all together..i think honestly that realy was the point somber's muse started to abandon him, a really good example was steelhoves in FoE his death was suden and tragic but it carried the weight of a mountain on top of it...the whole wasteland stood up and said 'fuck no' after that point, his death started the whole series of landslideing events leading into the stories climax.
