Tbf that was the only episode he did that in this half of the season he didn’t do it in season 7 and he didn’t do it in season 6 and his bragging in that episode wasn’t as bad as previous ones in the early seasons

Several things wrong with that statement:
 
He’s also the reason Thorax was accepted amongst Pony kind since he was the only one willing to give him a chance. And by extension the reason to changelings are at peace with the ponies now.
 
If he hadn’t rescued Ember then she would have drowned, therefore the kindness she was shown from a dragon raised by ponies was the biggest driving force in the dragons becoming more peaceful with Equestria. All thanks to Spike.
 
Another example being during the equestrian games where he single-handedly was able to melt a giant cloud of ice and save everyone in the Stadium from getting crushed.
 
So yes, he has moved Beyond simply being Twilight’s assistant. I suggest you actually pay attention to the episodes he’s in instead of automatically assuming he hasn’t achieved anything on his own.

He’s got more ego sometimes than Rainbow Dash, he’s only the Hero of the Crystal Empire by happy accident, and he’s only the dragon diplomat because of Ember and the role she played in him winning the title of Emperor.
 
Spike isn’t a loser, but he’s yet to accomplish anything on his own and he’s still his own worst enemy. Until he gets past those things, he’s still little more than Twilight Sparkle’s Number One Assistant ^tm.

Well since MLP is a fantasy that must that fantasy rules apply okay so here’s what I’ve done with my life so far.
 
Ended the oblivion crisis.  
Rescued the child of the elder blood.  
Blew up the Death Star.  
Stole a lot of vehicles.  
Got out of jail free.  
Saved Hyrule (multiple times)  
Slept with the princess(also multiple times)  
Went back to the future.  
Defeated Zeon with only a single Gundam.  
Won the Super Bowl all by myself.
 
I could go on and on but I won’t. Also not saying that spike is a loser I’m just telling the guidance counselor what I’ve done with my life.
