@Psychopomf - Personally, I’d suggest they go Irish. An old name for Ireland is Eire, pronounced very similar to “aerie” (an eagle’s nest). And griffons were believed to be guardians of gold.

@Psychopomf: Just by looking at the picture, I think it has a Nordic/Old English(Anglo-Saxon) vibe which in my opinion will fit the griffons very well, even more when you remember that “Gilda” is a name of Old English origin.
 
Not only we need more griffons, WE NEED MORE EQUESTRIA-PREVAILS.
