no actually it's because electricity takes the path of least resistance and the birds do not conduct electricity as well as the copper wires the electricity is running through so it's all like "fuck you bird you're a waste of my time" and goes on its merry way


 
if, however, the bird touches _*TWO_* wires, and one wire has a higher voltage than the other, then you're gonna be smelling some roasted bird
 
the bird will also be roasted if it touches a ground at the same time as the wire (something with zero voltage, such as the wood of the power pole)
 
so scoots might get electrocuted if she touches a wire while sitting on the wood

if, however, the bird touches _TWO_ wires, then it might be a more attractive path for a complete circuit than the electricity going alllll the way to the original destination and back
