Not a Llama - Happy April Fools Day!

A real flugelhorn is actually a very nice sounding instrument. The sound of Pinkie attempting to play this thing sound like they were made by someone who didn’t know how to play the trombone attempting to play the trombone.

Also, apparently Flügelhorn has the same etymological roots as Alicorn; both of them translates into English as “wing-horn”. So, apparently, Flügelhorn is the name of an obnoxious instrument, and what Germaney ponies call alicorns.

You’re thinking of a mellophone. Mellophones play the same range as the F horn, are typically pitched in F, and sound similar to horns. Flugelhorns are typically pitched in Bb, play the same range as trumpets, and sound like a cross between a trumpet and a horn. They are rarely used for marching, and used almost exclusively for jazz, with a very few exceptions of concert band pieces using flugels, and occasionally marching pieces, typically jazz ones.

I thought trombones were from MLP. Wow, real life must’ve copied ponies.
