I think the second movie actually lampshades that. It’s been a long time, but I think there’s a scene where people mock the kid’s claims by pointing out ambiguities in the 3 rules.

There 3 rules to owning a Mogwai you should know. One, do not expose him to bright light including sunlight, it will kill him. Two, never get him wet. And the most important three, NEVER under any circumstance feed him after midnight.
