Perhaps Equestria’s ponies measure stages of their lives similar to how real horses are measured IRL, and what a “grown mare” to them could just be a teenager to humans.

Based on nothing my headcanon is from youngest to oldest: Rainbow, Pinkie, Applejack, Twilight, Rarity, Fluttershy, Sunset, Trixie, Sunburst, Starlight.
i agree with you especially since her first appearance she seems to act older than the mane6, plus i really like the idea that Starlight, Sunburts (and to some extend, Trixie and Sunset) to be older than Twilight and co or just twilight herself

She could also be an older mare that made up for lack of social skills with magic and psychology.
Plus, some parents just treat their adult children as kids.
But really, there’s no certain way to know with Starlight.
I prefer to think she’s older than Twilight though.

After this episode, it’s more likely she’s just out of her teens. 20ish. It makes a lot more sense.
Honestly she seemed like she was at least in her 30s when she first appeared.
