Well, maybe you’re right. Besides the fact that Celestia is the highest authority of Equestria, which means Twilight actually can’t treat her the same way she treats her other friends.  
So basically, Twilight’s error was asking Celestia to be the star of her play without knowing if she was ready for that.

You have to understand that after all that time she was putting Celestia on a pedestal, it is not that simple.

Yeah, but while Celestia sees Twilight as a friend, Twilight sees Celestia like she’s still her mentor and also the mare who will decide her fate. But I hope it’s finally clear for Twilight, once and for all, that Celestia is her friend. And that she has to be always as honest to her as she would be to her other friends.

You already mentioned why Celestia forgave Twilight. No matter how often Twilight messes up, she is a friend to Celestia and if a friend messes up, especially if the heart was in the right place, you’ll forgive this friend.

As much as I love Twilight Sparkle, I think princess Celestia shouldn’t have forgiven her. Because Twilight never stops getting nervous to the point of losing control of herself when she has to do something for her. While Celestia already sees Twilight as a friend, not a simple subject.

I must say, it’s quite impressive How despite all the developments she went throught in the years, Writers still manage to use Twilight so well. IMO the conflict in this ep was one of the better constructed in the Series: Twilight really wanted to give something to Celestia and she tried all the possible ways to do it without ruining it and despite she KNEW she was in the wrong in not telling the truth. Even thought she was in the wrong, her heart was in the right place, and it came from a Newbie Writer. Twilight IS one of the most versatile characters ever.

Why didn’t they just get a changeling to act as celestia?
