You’re welcome!
Thanks ^^
To be fair, real horses will eat the skin off of fruit like bananas like what Luna did. Can’t say the same for pineapples though.
In the show they seem to eat, drink, and act like any other pony. It’s just that they’re royal alicorns. I’m with BP on this: they’re tough and live a long time but they’re not invisible.
@AC97
True, the show contradicted the book a few times but I really loved that book. I was honestly dissapointed and upset that the show didn’t use Flurry Heart’s birth as an opportunity to bring up the possibility of the two of them being natural born alicorns. But my denial and love of this particular idea had me handwave it as them being surprised that it happened to an ascended alicorn or the last time a natural born alicorn happened was thousands of years ago.
@Darkest Lunar Flower
I agree.
We’ve seen Luna eat fruit in a weird way.
You could explain it as exhaustion, Luna not knowing what a pineapple is and how to eat it…
…or they don’t need to eat and just TRY to look “organic”.
I really hope they put the rest in the show, as it makes the sisters seems almost like everypony else, it makes them seem more,“organic.” I feel like them having to breathe, drink, and eat like everyone else adds fun to a potential story. :3
To be fair, it’s kind of up in the air how much of that is objective “canon” at this point, some episode details aside.
In that book, they (Celestia and Luna) were both born alicorns, and Tree of Harmony was around when they were young, whereas in the show, they seemed to express surprise that an alicorn could be born. If they were born alicorns, that would’ve been an excellent time to bring it up. As for them seeing the Tree for the first time, as depicted, Shadow Play kind of threw that out, saying that it only appeared after Star Swirl disappeared.
(I prefer the “ageless and tough, but not invincible” headcanon for alicorns, but there’s nothing wrong in believing in something else, really. I like there being wiggle room, personally.)

Well, Celestia’s influence on Twilight is THAT large.
When confronted with the possibility of disappointing Celestia, Twilight has a mental breakdown.
Heck, we’ve probably would never seen Twilight’s parents if it weren’t for the “sudden appearance” *cough*Hasbro selling another toy*cough* of Cadance, and in turn, Twilight’s brother.
Funny enough, I more or less alluded to that in the forums rather recently.
Yay
And Twilight might be also long lived due to the Elements. So she might outlive Celestia and Luna.
After all…
@mjangelvortex
…it can be said that she won’t outlive her friends because they’ll live as long as she - which can be a long, long time.
Magical artifacts like the Elements tend to mess with the normal flow of things.
Yep. They’re not immortal goddesses like the old fan theory. Natural born alicorns like the two sisters just live a long time. And Twilight is not going to outlive her friends based on what the staff has said about her.
I’m so glad that episode made that book canon too. :D
Actually they are not immortal…
They are long lived. The journal of the two sisters book (which is cannon) states that.
Actually the journal says that Luna and celestia where not the ones always raising the sun and moon but star swirl and a few other unicorns. Unfortunately this action depleted the unicorns magic so they had to give it to the alicorn sisters. Which would have the opposite effect on them. It rejuvenated their magic.
Actually next episode (horse play) is going to restate this topic in the form of a play. ;)

Sounds about right to me. At least in regards to how Celestia, Luna, and Twilight view each other.

@AC97
I don’t think Luna sees any familial relation between herself and Twilight.
It’s Celestia who’s taking in ponies left and right ;)
@Darkest Lunar Flower
The age gap is a thousand years less Celestia’s.
All alicorns are faced with immortal blues, not just Luna. She might be the most reluctant due her whole social situation in the first few seasons.
Age in ponykind seems like a relative thing. We don’t really know the ages of the mane 6, but they still seem young, yet they’re already working and in some cases leading their own buisiness.
Considering Twilight becomes a princess herself later on (and the entire show drops hints this was planned for a while), the potential split doesn’t seem that likely. Heck, it might glue the kingdom together if Twilight is the “adopted” daughter of Celestia and potential life-partner of Luna.
And even without that, Celestia managed fine by herself for a thousand years, what’s a couple more? In that time Luna with the help of Twilight could potentially come to terms with herself and later on take a bigger role. Heck, up till like a season or two, Luna didin’t even have a throne for herself! (I know it’s an animation budget issue, but it wrote itself into canon)
Yeah I feel like Luna is like an aunt too. That’s why I find it odd to ship them too. And of course their age gap.
I’ve always had a theory that Luna is not quick to romantic love compared to other ponies, mostly because she has some wit.
To put it bluntly, yeah, something just sounds off about banging your mother figure’s sister, lol.
(Seriously though, it is kind of off-putting.)
But… with Celestia kind of being Twilight’s second mother, wouldn’t that make Luna an honorary aunt? And wouldn’t that be about as creepy as Celestia/Twilight ship? ._.
That said, I do ship Twiluna. Why? Well, your avatar says it.
They can be socially awkward together~
Agreed.
Yep.
Someone who played such a large role in molding Twilight into who she was at the start of the series, and since she was a child, no less?
Can’t see how that would be considered problematic.

But yeah, Momlestia is the best.
