The Maud Couple: EVEN BORING PEOPLE NEED LOVE!

Thought occurs: Pinkie, in her denial of how similar Mud is to Maud, dismissively describes Twiggy as “an inanimate object” while saying Boulder has “10 times” its personality. 10x0=0. Subconscious admission of what she won’t consciously accept?
 
On that note, this whole loving Maud while hating her quirks when they’re expressed by somepony else issue, coupled with confirmation that she’s outright denying Maud’s quirks when confronted with them by Starlight, is a fascinating example of doublethink not usually handled so subtly and left unresolved by the end credits. There’s only two ways her psyche can cope with this: Use doublethink until she forms an ideal Mud briar in her mind like she did with Maud, or shatter the delusion and learn to accept the real Maud, quirks and all.

You know I did some thinking and if Maud and Mud Briar do have a kid, their kid should love rubber, as in a slingshot!

Now we just need a flashback scene where it turns out Starlight got the Staff of Sameness from Mud Briar.

So, I guess boulder was a girl this whole time!
