"New Leaf" actually does have some cool free DLC, like the added Amiibo support, the playable WiiU & 3DS furniture items, (minigames included) and unlockable Zelda & Splatoon furniture items, and NPCs. If only other developers were as generous as the AC series developers.

(Granted, you do need Amiibo for the Zelda & Splatoon items, so maybe they aren't that "free," but oh well. I already had 2 Link Amiibo luckily.)
 
Hope Animal Crossing for Switch (if there is one) will have free DLC too.
