Frankly I wouldn’t even call this theft. It’s scamming people by charging them money for something they could get for free, but nothing is “stolen” from anyone. I strongly dislike the people who do this, but not because they have hurt the artist in any way.

But I think we can all agree that stealing actual art is much worse than the IP that it is based upon.
It’s always been a bit of a grey area when it comes to doing commissions for things you don’t technically own.
And it especially depends on the mindset of the company. Like if Disney owned MLP they would have none of it because they rule with an Iron Fist.

Exactly - this seems a little bit hypocritical. I’d have more sympathy if someone had literally broken into his house and stolen pieces of art, but this “theft” isn’t significantly worse than what any artist does when they sell artwork involving characters owned by Hasbro.
This is why I release all my art into the public domain where possible.
