No thanks.
But series finale? Na’h.
I can see why some people are uncomfortable about reducing genocide to a brief pie fight & then everyone gets along.
(In fact, I actually thought it was cool the bison were like the “Indians.”)
I think both sides were shown to be antagnonistic with each other, and flawed. In the end they figured out a compromise for both parties, and got along at the end.
I don’t think the lesson was trying to justify what happened to Native Americans, (having their farmlands taken away by the Government, and all) but trying to teach kids, there are other ways to solve your problems besides fighting.
Anyone who says that episode was “racist” is way to “Politically-Correct” for their own good, and probably think almost everything is “racist.”
(This is why they barely ever show “Loony Tunes” on TV anymore… Because of overly P.C. people like that who think if Bugs Bunny so much as makes fun of a German guy it’s “racist.”)
Honestly, I think P.C. (Political Correctness) just creates MORE racial tension then it solves.
If you really thought Over a Barrel was racist you’ve got some seriously sensitive nerves. Seems to me you guys bash these episodes based on stupid shit you infer in them.
The debates after said episode aired not withstanding.
Parent comment for extra context:
“I hope all this controversy doesn’t bother you too much, Lauren; there are a lot of ponies who are ready to flare up at the least provocation on certain subjects. Personally, as with others, I was a little put off by the “lesson” of the episode, which came off to me as “don’t bother trying to understand things”; and, if I was a parent, I’d be worried about my kids being discouraged from science or the like; but that’s me! Everypony’s going to take things in a different way, and any creator always runs the risk of ponies seeing something in their work they didn’t put there. Despite the moral, I was entertained and enjoying myself throughout the episode until then, and directly after (Celestia! Ha ha!), so it was still a good show from everypony on your team.
Commiserating pats-on-the-back in advance of whatever further complaints you receive.”
It was the miscommunication of the moral at the end of the episode. NOT the episode itself, that got people so riled up, as Ponylooker implies.
Also, it didn’t “nearly drive off half the fandom”. It did cause a stir, but nothing that 4channers would consider noteworthy or even something to rage quit about.
And finally: “Over A Barrel… was racist as fuck”
What. An episode where both opposing groups let bygones be bygones and become friends by the end of the episode is racist?
Ponylooker doesn’t know what the fuck he’s talking about. It’s like he’s nothing more than some endless hose of cynicism that doesn’t actually participate in the fandom because he enjoys the show, but because he wants to spend his days bitching about things.
Lauren’s apology for the episode
Agreed.
“Lauren Faust had to personally apologize for it”
For real?
And to OP, do you know one of the things I hate most? When people regard their personal opinions as a fact.
The other two are fine. I enjoyed them.
Still like M.A. Larson Episodes a lot too. She should write the finale. A three part episode would be cool for it.
