Bible stories are some of the oldest memes in existence. You’re right, using the term prodigal to mean someone who loses themselves then returns home is wrong for the word itself, but the meaning is clearly conveyed, even if it irks you.

But yes, I do think it fits, because Sunset did run off, seeing nothing but the short term. She tried (and largely succeeded) to form her own empire, and would have returned triumphant if she had her way.

Instead, she returned far more humbly, having once again lost everything dear to her, to beg for forgiveness and help, and she was not turned away.

I am sorry to have peeved your pet, however.

Oh, I know it was a reference to the parable; I’m just sick of seeing people use it, by analogy with the parable, to mean merely “lost”/“repentant” in situations where the literal meaning doesn’t actually apply.

I think saying it fits literally in this case is a bit of a stretch, but you could make a case for it.

Well, one, typo, but clearly you know what word was meant.

Two. Yes, the literal meaning was wasteful and extravagant, but it’s a reference to the parable. The Prodigal Son took his inheritance and went out into the world, then returned home penniless, expecting at best to be made a servant, at worst to be turned away. He was instead welcomed back with open arms. Sunset did waste everything Celestia taught her, and tried to take what she saw as hers by right when she became impatient with her teacher. The word fits even in the literal sense.

First of all, the word is spelled “prodigal”, and second, Celestia’s calling Sunset wasteful and extravagant?
