It’s not fear of reltionships on the characters I just feel the book is really lazy made. This lost it’s chance to be interesting to anybody, I really think that even children have quality standards. Let’s say that Rising Star instead of being an evil magical boi he was actually very smart and a good project partner and we could focus the plot in the hard work, struggles and satisfaction of making an excellent project (seriously? a party mood modificator? There is a freaking car in the space right now but a “party mood modificator” sounds really silly or like drugs/alcohol) and maybe with antagonism from other jealous teams and for a cliffhanger maybe Twilight considers Rising Star above Timber because nerds get each other sometimes.
 
Not trying to be negative but we should be able to identify when someone is trying to sell you a bag of BS independently of the fandom.

Yes, her romantic escapade was quite cute in Star Crossed, and Text Support, but in Legend of Everfree, not so much.
 
I mean, at least to me, it was pretty standard, maybe even stereotypical love story - it’s even a love at first sight .
 
And it’s quite odd for Twilight to fall in love/get a crush so fast in such situation - I mean right before this, and after this, she was haunted by her fears of Midnight Sparkle, and her magic getting out of control. This continues through the rest of the movie - Twilight acting traumatized, then meeting Timber and acting all in love, then again being traumatized - really making her character arc erratic and inconsistent.
 
Sci-Twi’s and Timber’s interactions also aren’t exactly written in LoE - while Timber get’s to tell Twilight her backstory, Twilight doesn’t ever giver her own, or tells him any of her problems, or have them bond over more than just being interested in scientific stuff - in fact when Timber once for a moment sees Twlight is troubled by something, a moment later both the movie and Timber forget about this development entirely. Them even bonding over similar interests comes of as a kinda half hearted effort, seeing it two very small moments they talk over sciency stuff, and one the movie get’s wrong - Timber says Sapphire - Sapphirus/Sappirus in Latin means blue, but it’s not true - Sapphirus/Sappirus means just Sapphire. A minor mistake, but it kinda I think adds to the argument the romance’s development comes of as a half-hearted effort.
 
This also resulted in the fact Timber has no impact on Twilight’s character arc - Sci-Twi get’s over her trouble entirely thanks to her friends. Their romance could be entirely removed, and it wouldn’t affect’s Twilight’s main storyline at all. Even though it takes up a visible part of the runing time…
 
Again, as I noted, this was improved in Star Crossed and Text Support, but that’s after LoE.

Well, we are not sure if this is an literall spell, and I think Timber and Sci-Twi are pretty aware of their feelings after Legend of Everfree - they nearly kissed at the end of LoE, and go on a date (called so even in the official description) in Star Crossed.
 
But as Darth Shy noted, there is some possiblity this takes place before Legend of Everfre, but that has issues o it’s own, which I noted in my earlier comment .

It will be a literal spell! And technically Sci-Twi and Timber doesn’t seem to be too aware (or in plain ol’ denial) that their relationship is of the romantic kind, so I don’t see a problem with they falling for others.

I for one, Find Sci- Twi’s Fumbling but enthusiastic Romantic Escapades utterly adorable.

Also, I noted this multiple times in both my description, and comments, but is how seemingly Rising Star comes of as - a stereotypical girl show antagonist, basically a male Femme Fatale that seduces the main character (Sci-Twi here), really how you want the first male direct antagonist be in Equestria Girls?
 
As I think it’s at least a bit overused in works targeted for girls, and I expected more from Equestia Girls. I mean, in FiM we had Discord, Tirek, Sombra, or even the Pony of Shadows, and lesser male antagonists, which come of as far more interesting, that what Rising Star seems to be. Heck, we had the original Tirek in G1, and others.
 
Dunno, Rising Star just seems a step back, compared to them.
 
Dunno, as I noted, maybe I’m a bit overreacting - this may be just a book, and it may prove better - but it just has some clues it will be quite bad, and possibly there being set a trend that could quite do damage to the Equestria Girls storyline, and specifically characterisations of Sci-Twi.

But is my description as a whole melodramatic? It’s quite possible the writers will make Twilight cheat on Timber, or being close to do so. It also makes Sci-Twi come of as very easily falling in love, contrary to her depiction as a girl with not that much social expirience. As Background Pony #DD15 noted, Twilight, even if she would fall in love, should be at least somewhat awkward around her crush(es).
 
I mean, even the series writers seemingly noted Twilight’s interractions with Timber were at least somewhat OOC in LoE, and they made Sci-Twi a lot more awkward around Timber in Star Crossed.
 
I mean, Background Pony #136C is visibly critical about this turn, as were commenters under >>1656767 so I’m not the only one who doesn’t like this. (Even though I think Background Pony #136C overreacts).
 
Maybe I shouldn’t make so many words bolded, but to me at least, it’s more effective in empasizing things. And also, I think there is evidence there is some at least arguably character ruining stuf in this book, along with the possibility it will have an animated counterpart/be fullly canon.

I can se what you mean, but I think you’re overreacting - yes the first Equestria Girls movie had issues, but I think they wee forced during production, rather than from the start.
 
And Sci-Twi, aside from some episodes, didn’t show such symptoms of turning into a stereotype - even her relationship with Timber, in Star Crossed, was wroten more in character, showing the writers did notice problems, and tried to adress them.

It’s possible it’s not that “romantic interests” scare Background Pony #C543, but that he doesn’t like what he percieves as bad writing. Again, Romance isn’t that eay to write, and it’s easy to mess it it, and many shows intended for girls, suffered from that. Indeed, Lauren Faust herself noted romantic interests tend to often derail characters and stories in girls shows, hence she avoided doing them with the Mane 6, or at least would so in he first seasons.
 
Not to mention, Love at first sight, as was noted bellow, also don’t happed as often as fiction would present it to you, and quite often, maybe even more so, go nowere in reall life.

Besides did anyone know about other contributions of Arden Hayes to MLP or EG? Sound like a new writer for me.

This is exactly what happen with EQG and not only withthe book writer at every issue.The first movie was trash and resorted to “schools are didivded into cliques” cliche that was already tired by the end of the 1990s.Everything about EQG is out of touch and reek of “Boomers executive try to understand those darn millenials and their meme and Facebook” I dont know who pushed DHX into this mud pit and caused Faust to nope her way out of the gen she helped to build and making her quote/unquote”complete disdain” to the project known before slamming the door but they are clearly out of their elements incorporating/Shoehornig teen drama in a franchise that was supposed to be about horses and rainbow being hippies and not “THE PROM IS TOMORROW AND BRANDON IS WEARING THE SAME DRESS AS ME,PAMELA” plotline

She’s the main character like Optimus Prime is the main character of Transformers so they need to make the romance happen to her to sell toys ala Ken and Barbie .The suits dont care if “boy-crazy/infatuated” was established as more of Rarity character trait,they’ll make the universe and the character bend to their will because the chart said so.If you want pairing and relationship that feel more natural,slow-paced,subtle and less forced ,check Sunburst and Starlight interactions (which can ,i’ll absolutley grant you that,be interpreted as just friends depending on who you ask but it’s feel somehow more human and sincere.You wont see them “almost kissing” tho if it’s something that you prefer and is an absolutly fine thing to want in media but you need to have good writing behind that to make it work)

Ah, But Infatuatuion is something that many teenagers often mistake for True love. Teenagers without much life experiance often only learn after making mistakes. So Twilight Might be portayed as shallow and dumb when it comes to boys. Most Teens are. Besides, the description say’s nothing about romance, only her falling under his spell. She’s probably gonna be giggly and awkward as hell unless Twilight is literally under a love spell.
 
If you’ve ever seen a female relative fall head over heel for a boy she’s known for all of a day then infatuation can certainly feel like a magic spell.

Backgroundlol already at least somewhat gave a good argument against what you say - Sci-Twi is socially awkward, even in later depictions of her romance with Timber, so it is out of character she would fall for someone so quickly, with Timber love at first sight, and also easily interract with bee crush. Twilight at least SHOULD be realy awkward around her crush, having dificulty to show it.
 
Not to mention, such types of falling in love (love at first sight), happens far less often than diction would make you think.
