I think it’s more likely that they become evenly matched after Twilight gets the edge she needs to match Trixie, and they burn each other out. After that, maybe a tentative friendship is formed out of mutual respect for each other’s abilities.

Nope. Either it’ll end with them on sort of neutral ground (still calling that they fuck up Ponyville and have to clean it up) or Trixie gets broken, humiliated, and driven out of town again. The apologists will try to spin it in her favor, but the fact remains: Trixie was not the villain in Boast Busters, she got a rough deal. But she’s making a very bad decision in Magic Duel.
