Considering Zecora The Wise is involved, and the smug smiles on her and Twilight, I’m close to believing it’s just a useless trinket made to have Trixie think she’ll lose, and thus lose. Because she’s dumb, like all bad guys.

Dude, it’s going to be a cheaters don’t win episode, and Twilight’ll get in trouble too… Because according to that promo shot, Zecora helps her cheat too.
 
Still calling that Ponyville gets wrecked during their final battle, and as punishment they both have to clean up their mess. Good, neutral, happy ending.

Yes, I’m a huge downer, have always been; I just usually hide it and pony-up lift my spirits.
 
And this episode, from what we know, annoys me for two reasons.
 

Twilight’s power has hardly ever made her a fix-anything plot device, and judging by the green amulet in that one picture, even her raw magic won’t be enough to deal with Trixie.

I do think TSP has a point and not just here but in tons of other stuff that do the same thing. Either make your protagonist strong or your antagonist weak, don’t do both. Otherwise, it’s like watching Chuck Norris versus Steve Urkel. Might be bit of a laugh but not much drama or tension.

Twilight will transmute her body into Explodium.

They’re just going to have her run off or get banished after being shown to be weak and pathetic. Episode is already “partially ruined” for me simply because Trixie uses a cheat to win, further cementing the Twilight is The Chosen One stuff. There’s no real drama if every problem goes away with liberal application of Twilight, seeing as she’s the most powerful thing ever.

I doubt that the amulet does have anything to do with King Sombra. While I can see why people would draw up that conclusion, the episode is going to have so much stuff going on (having the duel, having Zecora give Twilight the green amulet, having Twilight come back and challenge Trixie again, Celestia and those two other ponies etc.) I doubt they’ll even go into the amulet’s backstory or how Trixie got it.

That’d be a shame. I just cannot see this episode turning out very well for our resident vain sorceress. Redemption is looking like less and less a possibility, but it’ll be all the more powerful if it does occur.

I’d imagine that when she loses to Twilight near the end of the episode, Trixie might lose it and attempt to destroy her with the amulet’s power, but loses control of it.
