Description

Like I said before, the sonic rainboom pendant didn’t turn out the way I hoped it would, but I hope that the idea of what I hoped to achieved can still be seen. The problems were mostly caused by the material. Contrary to the way it should be the black colour liner for the plastic granulate sticks very firmly to the backing paper from which it is supposed to be easy to separate. The only backing paper to which the plastic granulate itself doesn’t stick to the point that it cannot be separated is a kind of backing paper with a bumpy structure that shows unfavorably on the final result. Worse still, the backing paper marked off on the pendant, so the colors got a sickly yellow brownish taint (most annoying on the supposedly transparent and light blue parts of the pendant). Last but not least the plastic material shrunk considerably in the oven and while I mananged to make up for some of it by adding more pellets during the melting process (burning my hand in the process) several cracks remain (most distinctly in the green of the upper left corner and at Rainbow’s mouth (where the white color caused additional problems)).
But like the show says, “we’re not flawless” and I hope that future projects will come closer to what I hope for them to be. I do hope to find a solution to the backing paper problem.
