I think buying a toy to keep it in the box is just silly. That’s what collectibles are for, not toys: For example, this nifty little 1/20 size scale replica of the sword and shield from the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.
 
I prefer more detailed models for looking at anyway, specifically ones which make me go “whoah.” Exempli Gratia, the Necron Overlord from Games Workshop. Or any of their models, really.

That isn’t saying I’d cut Derpy’s hair: that’s silly. I just wouldn’t buy the thing to begin with if it doesn’t look like the character in the show.

The reason why show accuracy is a big deal to me is because I’m interested in the show: the show is more canon to me than the toys, etc. If I’m going to buy a thing, I want it to accurately depict the thing it represents.

Then any person that cuts her hair better be damn well committed to keeping her forever as I won’t buy one with cut hair even if it costs $5.

I can understand that, but then again I can understand that people want both. Another chick on here a while back had one and cut her hair, it didn’t look half-bad.

I don’t WANT to cut my Derpy;s hair if I ever get one… I’d open her, yes, but I wouldn’t ruin her because I don;t give a shit about stupid show accuracy. I mean jeez, if a Derpy with SHort hair is 100x better, then people like that should just get a custom that could be 100% show accurate and handmade.  
Lots of bronies have money to spare, I don’t, I just collect and Derpy and Star Dreams are all I’m missing.

You could always just get two Derpy’s (one for butchering and one for resale), but that would leave us right where we started :P

But when you DO decide to sell her in the future, if you do, then she’ll be worth less with cut hair, and unlike Rainbow Dash or Applejack, you can’t just buy a new one, so the more Derpy’s with cut hair, the less of them in existance with uncut hair, meaning that in, say 5 years, it would be hard to find a Derpy with uncut hair because some bronies are so obsessed with their stupid show accuracy.  
If you want a ‘show accurate’ Derpy toy, just buy a custom, they’re cheaper anyway. :/

Well if you opened the box in the first place then you’ve made a conscious decision that you have her for your personal enjoyment and not for resale, so her market value/rarity is irrelevant at that point.
 
So if your going to open it, why not cut the hair? As long as it makes you happy it’s not a bad decision.

Because she’s a limited edition ad worse a lot of money and there is not an infinite amount of her to go around. You can go to Wal-mart and buy, say a Rainbow Dash for $5 at any given time. Derpy is also bigger and out of production.

I hate cutting the hair of the official toys, I only style/like my customs styled…

Honestly, all the mane 6 and CMC and princesses are fine to style as there are millions in existance.

My point is that at the end of the day they’re pieces of plastic, you’re not missing much.
