Description

Looks like Twilight is feeling a little less special after hearing what Starlight had to say. One can only wonder what she’ll do next, with her royal decree

Oh, of course. That’s why I posted the Japanese next to my translation for you to see. You probably just got lost in that mess of nested clauses.

A good trick with Japanese is to remember that it’s the verb at the end which holds the key to the point of the sentence, so concentrate on that first and then figure out the logical chain that leads up to it.

I admit that may not have been the best way to interpret the statement. That’s part of why I do translation work like this, and make it public, so I can get the practice in, and learn where I can be better at it. Can’t improve if you’re afraid to fall on your face, after all

Well, the main problem here is that you really mangled the meaning of Starlight’s dialogue in that third panel, so that it’s really unclear what she’s saying. I’d translate the following:

そういうドラマって、物語の都合上扱いづらくなたり、役者のギャラが高くなりすぎたら、たとえ主役級のキャラでも,
「舞台」から去ってもらうだって、お話もドラマチックになって、一石二鳥なんだとか。。。

More along the lines of:

In dramas like this, when a difficulty arises in handling the story, like an actor’s fee getting too high, even if it’s the lead character, they’ll move them off the stage, which makes for a dramatic turn in the story as well. Two birds, one stone.

Starlight isn’t replacing Twilight, though. Anyone who’s seen even a hint of what’s coming should know that.

seems like starlight tells about Trixie’s sad upbringing and put twilight in such a tramic shock so trixie can do a little like she wants with Twilight.

Now, now, let’s not get too heated about it. Just as everyone has a style of translation, everyone has things they like and don’t like in a translation. I know I have a long way to go as a translator, and am always ready to hear out those who have constructive criticism to offer

It’s a pretty rough translation.
I think it’s that they’re watching a drama(obviously), and Applejack jokes that she doesn’t like it when the drama stretches out the story for too long. Rainbow says she like the slower pace since it lets her get a better understanding of said story.
Then, Starlight’s translation is the roughest. I think she’s referring to when a character is developed enough they get ‘retired’ and replaced, which causes Twilight to have a panic attack.
At least, I think that’s what it’s trying to say.
