I remember that and I think it was just a lame excuse. Even Lauren Faust herself thought that excuse was weird. After all, the previous Generations of MLP did have good Queen characters in them, even in the toyline. I think they just made the excuse because princess toys were selling well.
All I know is, the reason Hasbro rejected Lauren making Celestia queen was because, allegedly, Disney put the idea into children’s heads that queens are evil and princesses are good, so to say she’s good, she had to be a princess.
There was what? One evil Disney Queen? Two tops perhaps. Along with some evil kings and good kings and queens as well. I can not buy that.
And it was Faust’s original idea to take down the Disney’s spoiled outdated evil stereotype.

Also people were speculating that Celestia took the land from the Griffons on purpose. I’m glad to see that wasn’t the case. (I guess some people love hanging onto the Tyrantlestia meme/headcanon a bit too much.)

Ah right, I think I misunderstood by Gestal and Celestia’s interaction.
The text (apparently the only copy of this land trade) was found in the griffon records just “now”, so likely was lost there before Celestia’s time.
I think she means that she knows now, as of Twilight and Raven finding out and telling her.
