Yup, literally just saw that post and came here.
It’s sad, but it happens. On the plus side, Pterus will have a good set of mommies to take care of him after that.
As per the most recent ask from an anon on Tumblr, Captain Vulpa is indeed Pterus’ biological mother. Her design had been changed since the wedding arc as mentioned in this post.
Quite sad knowing the result of her future… though I hope we hear more of what happened to her leading up to Pterus being adopted, at some point in the blog.

They haven’t adopted Pterus yet in the story. Right now, it’s still not too long after they got married.
We only saw his mom briefly during the wedding shot, different batpony from what Silfoe said:

…No, that’s Luna’s Night Guard Captain. Pterus was adopted by Luna and Twilight, so they’re his moms. And to my knowledge, Silfoe has never explained what happened to Pterus’s birth parents.-
