Depending on the type of rock, it can erode very quickly. Particularly sedimentary rocks like sandstone, limestone and chalk.
A few hundred years ago, my local seaside town was inland with a whole other village and “three acres of meadow” out where the sea currently is. It’s all gone and we now have a ton of sea defenses, simply because the ground is chalk.
