I haven’t really kept up to date with recent official MLP content but from what I heard there was some book where it reveals Scootaloo lives with two aunts, Aunt Holiday and Aunt Lofty. Unlike with Bon Bon and Lyra, these two were confirmed a lesbian couple by Mike Vogel.

As if same-gender couples were such a terrible thing. It’s two people showing affection for each other. If it’s okay between a boy and a girl, why can’t it be okay for two boys or two girls?
 
And for that matter, Hasbro actually has subtly implied same-gender relationships with Bon Bon and Lyra as “best friends”, with the occasional moments of subtext that suggests something more intimate. They’re not out-and-out calling them girlfriends, but they definitely know fans ship them and include those little teases as fanservice.
 
Not to mention I recall some deleted scenes from one of the EQG films implied two background guys were together. So I don’t think the team is against SS couples, they just don’t want to openly support them because bible beaters and other bigots will give them hell and generate controversy.

I’d like to see Flash get some character development too, but with all the hate he’s gotten over the years, I don’t have high hopes for him getting much screen time.
 
…Also, would Star Tracker count as “someone like Sunburst”?

Hence why I said “someone like Sunburst”. Point is, an awkward, nerdy school guy would have felt like a much more organic love interest for Twily than “handsome nice guy”. It would have been a great opportunity to show how, even though most of the students ignore or tease him, Twily accepts and even adores him for who he is, enjoying the fact someone else out there enjoys books as much as she does.
 
But now that Flash is basically friendzoned, I can’t help but feel kinda bad for the guy. Seems like a good opportunity to flesh out his character more. Like, does he ever feel left out when the girls all get together to save the day and he ends up just another face in the crowd? Does he ever wish he had his own jewel so he could join the girls on their adventures?

Recent episode suggests that Starlight is NOT willing to give up on Sunburst. So if Twilight was to get with Sunburst, she better expect heavy resistance. Even after knowing that they have barely anything in common, Starlight still wants to keep her relationship with Sunburst.

Admittedly, I would have put Twily with someone more like Sunburst who obviously shares her love of study and nerd hobbies. An awkward, adorkable nerd boy would probably have gelled better with the fans. Of course, if they’d matched Twily to a boy of similar interests, it would only have been a matter of time before shippers started matchmaking for the rest of the six: Dashie with a jock, AJ with a farmboy, Fluttershy with an adorkable animal lover…Of course, given the nature of fandom, I’m sure someone’s already done that.

I would say that the fans’ initial reception of Flashlight (Twi x Flash) as a “dull high school cliche shipping” is an example of the reason why they dislike such ships.

My guess is because this fandom is already too obsessed with same sex ships (with little to no context to go with them) and Sunset was kinda a jerk to Flash in Legend of Everfree.

Season 7 has proved that romance (or the appearance of it) does not make a character or episodes dull. We got a fun SugarMac episode, the heartwarming AJ’s mum and da episode, and heck, we even got a “Glimmer got cucked three times in a row by her best friends” episode.

I mean, if you don’t ship SunLight you’re wrong.
