Gotcha, I understand your earlier reasoning from your perspective now. But yeah, Starlight is a definite Prince class.

“Pages tended to stay in holding patterns, because their power would overshadow everyone else if they didn’t stay in a holding pattern. Seriously, a fully self aware and self-actualized Starlight would completely dominate the setting.”

The problem is while Gohan always had growth potential, Starlight does not. She is limited completely by her prowess in unicorn magic and has no otherworldly inner strength. The fact she has so much power simply by existing makes Starlight more like Uub then Gohan, although despite being trained by someone as separated from reality as Goku/Pony Twilight, Uub actually became a responsible young teen. (While the GT show bastardized so much of DBZ and its characters, Uub and SS4 Goku were allright. But that’s a little off track)

….

“Point is that I honestly do want Sci-Twi to surpass Sunset, my only problem is that they went way too fast with it.”

I’m the exact opposite with Sci Twi. I want Sci Twi to be stronger then Pony Twi, and I want Sunset to remain the stronger then Sci Twi and the older sister/senpai relationship since she’s the true Heir of Celestia for a better generation of harmony.

Plus, they already established showing Sunset and Sci Twi’s stars in EG3 that Sunset will be the strongest in the long run, and they already established that Sunset is still the leader despite Sci Twi becoming an alicorn first, which was a refreshing change of pace to Celestia declaring alicorn pony twi a princess on the spot. Besides, Sci Twi has not reached any level of power greater then what Sunset has achieved while still being in control of herself.

While there is quite a bit of Gohan in Sci Twi, its not all there, and Sunset is not Goku or Vegeta, there is no need for Sci Twi to surpass her. Unlike Pony Twi, success isn’t Sci Twi sole goal in life, its to be herself. And her drive to fight for her friends is high but is not superior to Sunset’s. Its okay for Sci Twi to be the Luna to Sunset’s Celestia, so long as both learn from their predecessor’s mistakes, and they have already.

In her nature and even a visual sense, she’s a rogue and/or an heir. Even her first god tier appearance gives her the god tier rogue mask. If a successful Muse can have aspects of both of a Heir and a Rogue and other classes, which is possible due to it being one of the two Master-classes, then Sunset would be a successful Muse, which wouldn’t be too far off since Sunset’s current ability is pretty much the penultimate and powerful nondirect ability, complete connection to hearts and minds of those she touches, and a lesser extent by doing her ‘windy (friendship) thing’ while singing. Also, her element awakening and matching up with other elements charged with Rainbow Power suggests her possibly having a Master class.

Yeah, Prince is probably a better Class for Starlight, the reason I brought up the Page Class is the way Starlight’s potential is likely to be static. All the Prince’s had character arcs that went somewhere, even if Dirk’s was the only one that went anywhere good. Pages tended to stay in holding patterns, because their power would overshadow everyone else if they didn’t stay in a holding pattern. Seriously, a fully self aware and self-actualized Starlight would completely dominate the setting. It’s the same problem Toriyama had with Gohan when he tried to reduce the power level bullshit in the Buu Arc.

Point is that I honestly do want Sci-Twi to surpass Sunset, my only problem is that they went way too fast with it.

Only ‘physically’ in the 4th movie. They made it abundently clear in Rainbow Rocks that Sunset had the 7th element’s power when her own individual and unique element completed the Harmony Blaster into something on an entirely different level then anything we’ve seen so far. Its not like it was anything else; it wasn’t unicorn magic of any kind, and it would be illogical that the final form of the harmony blaster would require two elements of magic(Sunset’s aura was different anyway).

Plus Meghan naming the element in that old interview(Empathy), even though it wasn’t canonized, did establish that Meghan thought Sunset had a 7th element, like many of us thought at the time.

@Darth Sonic
Wait…Starlight the Page Class? That doesn’t sound right at all. Wait…You seem to be analyzing 1)natural talent and 2)aspect growth potential in the opposite order.

Sci Twi is the better Page, not Starlight. Insecurity upon insecurity wrapping up a large ball of hope and optimism with enormous power. Perhaps not the most formidable in a straight fight of skill like a knight, a lord or a heir, but formidable in her power when fully unleashed despite mild fighting talent.

Starlight is the match for the Prince Class. She has an abundance of natural talent and skill the second she started honing her abilities, but due to massive personality gaps, they have very little aspect/harmony growth potential, and they end of being as self destructive as they are destructive….to their lives, their friends lives, and their friendships.

Dirk was a successful good Prince, directing his raw destructive talent well and working hard to repair any damages to his friendships he made despite his self-acknowledged personality holes, Kurloz was a successful evil prince and embraced the destructive nature of his class and aspect, and Eridan was the most like Starlight, a failed Prince, who became incredibly destructive and self destructive in almost everything he/she did.

Starlight would NOT thrive in any world other then the infinitely forgiving Equestria, and her friendship and healthy co-dependence (Starlight <> Trixie) allows her some moral strength, although obviously not enough to become an element.

If Rainbow Dash is a Knight, then Sunset would definitely be an Heir. Early Pony Twilight was originally supposed to be a Heir, but her more internal personality holes yet easy access to power and aspect spells (Sollux and Meulin) made her more of a Mage. Although Twilight is more of a mage of light(fortune) then a mage of doom like Sollux, which reflects her life.

Also, when it comes to potential, my list goes like this: Starlight (though only on technicality; there is no character that can match her base power level without some sort of divinity or power boost. Yet her potential is sorta like the Page class from Homestuck; immense, but very unlikely to be achieved due to deep personality flaws)>Sci-Twi>Sunset>Princess Twilight.

@Darth Sonic
I meant ‘stable’ ascension power. Sci twi being driven mad by 6 stolen elements, including a dimensional one, merging with her own latent element of magic, turning her into a chaotic fallen angel…is something I would hesitate to call her own power and talent.

Midnight Sparkle was only that strong due to stealing large amounts of element power, wielding all 7. Even a normal human like gloriosa with that much power corrupted is nearly unstoppable. Sunset, on the other hand, has shown ridiculous harmony potential(enough to match power with the other 6 while they were using Rainbow Power), and absurd power with only 5 elements sharing their power.

….

Where 6 willingly shared elements were enough to stabilize scitwi’s abilities and make her a lesser alicorn, only 5 willingly shared elements were enough to make sunset a seraph.

In other words, neither twi may ever be as strong as midnight sparkle’s MAXIMUM power. On their own stable power, they both are still lesser alicorns. Of course, human twi may have more potential in the long run due to no trick book stealing 5 elements to trigger alicornship instead of 6 elements willingly shared to trigger alicornship. Celestia forced an ascension in pony twi, while sci twi got one accidentally but willingly and naturally.

I was with you until that very last sentence. That was something you pulled out of nowhere, considering that Daydream Shimmer did not beat Midnight in a straight up fight. Midnight is still very much the Broly of FiM, that is a character that can be summed up in one sentence: “MY MAGIC IS MAXIMUM!”

@Alexlayer
Indeed. While I disagree that sci-twi’s method was artificial, especially compared to the first example, it was definitely accidental. Midnight Sparkle’s power stuck to her like a dark spirit in her subconscious, and both Twilights don’t need much power to ascend. They’re both lesser alicorns. Sunset, who gained energy alicorn horn and wings, not so much.

@Alexlayer
I think not only is it going to happen, but it might be at the end of this season. “Round 2” with Chrysalis will probably be the trigger. Even if you ignore the Aurora Glimmer theory I still think it’s pretty obvious, because:

  • Staff has said before that she’s “far off” from becoming a Princess, not that she will never
  • It’s the logical end for Twilight being a teacher because it means that she will have matched Celestia’s own teaching of her

    No, I’m not a fan of this either but I think it’s very likely. And how much do you want to bet we still won’t get a single mention of Sunset in season seven, not even a background appearance via a photograph or something. The Twitter image a little while ago from Meghan McCarthy with Sunset’s cutie mark on her face was a huge troll.
Background Pony #B6CE
Or it’s just to keep the two Twilights consistent, and no other mention will be made of it at all.

Still, with the number of alicorns steadily increasing (Starlight will soon be added to that number), it’s really become less important. It’s like how Super Saiyan in the Dragon Ball series was eventually attained by just about every main Saiyan character.

As for Sunset, I don’t think she’ll ever attain that, especially now that she’s seemingly become the mentor / support character.

Pony twi was made an alicorn through infinitely more artificial means, while twi gained hers naturally through willingly given power to control her power. So not much of an argument their.

Sunset’s potential as an alicorn could one day exceed celestIa , but she has no desire to become an alicorn until she and celestia comes to terms. Seraph level magic is no joke, and is way higher tier then either twilight.

Yeah, Sci-Twi is an alicorn, as shown in Legend of Everfree.

My own theory is that Sci-Twi artificially, and accidentally turned herself into an alicorn, when she absorbed the share amount magic transforming her into Midnight Sparkle. Sunset also by this logic, should be an alicorn, but one could further theorize Sunset absorbed less magic (Dayream Shimmer was shown as somewhat weaker than Midnight Sparkle, and would lose, if not for Spike, and latter Sci-Twi overcoming Midnight mentally when Sunset persuaded her to do so), as well as more “borrowed”, rather that absorbed permanetly into herself, as Sci-Twi did accidentally.

Legend of Everfree shows though that it has a visible bad side - Sci-Twi wasn’t at all mentally prepared for the power of an alicorn, and the personality of Midnight resurfacing because of that.
