Well, it's kinda complicated, as the creators would have to be subtle in showing **any** hints of a character being non straight in a cartoon, at least if it's to air globally, as many countries, are against showing homosexuality in a kids cartoon.
Again, this is reason why the Gems are described as genderless in Steven Universe, or why Marceline and Princess Bubblegum, are portrayed by subtexts, and Marceline and Princess Bubblegum are confirmed as loving each other (romantically) and having been once in a relationship.
Ironically, I saw similar comments about that Marceline must be straight, seeing she had a boyfriend, and turned out she's Bi. Similarly with Bubblegum, she also was argued as straight, to having some romantic interactions with male characters.
And Rarity and Applejack have **tons** of"[shippy looking interactions and chemistry":](http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/HoYay/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic) and while originally it might been accidental, I'm almst sure that at this point, the creators are teasing older fans, seeing the pairings popularity.
It's particularly visible with Equestria Girls Applejack and Rarity:

I mean, in the first Equestria Girls movie, it comes of Applejack and Rarity are holding each other in a manner that's is almost exclusively used by couples, or people pretending to be one.
Of course, Equestria Girls Rarity shown not that much really interest in boys, aside from a flirting, or seducing them to do her work, so one could theorize pony Rarity is more probable to be straight, while human Rarity more probable as being bi or lesbian - again there can be differences between counterparts, as seen best with Sci-Twi and Filthy Rich. Again though, just my theory XD
To be clear, I actually ship Applejack more with Rainbow Dash, and Rarity with Spike or Fluttershy (although my shipping prefernces do tend to change with those 5 characters), but I just think there the creators are giving us at least some fan service for RariJack shippers. Again, I might be wrong.
Although there is also the fact MLP characters, are fictional characters, and many aspects of their characterization, including sexuality, is up to the creator of the fanwork. And fanworks essentially, exist in universes of their own.
And about Iceman - yes, I agree his reveal as homosexual was done badly - I actually complained about to some friends about it, although before I started to writ on deriobooru (being then just a silent watcher). Although I did agree in the past with Sr Pelusa that Bobby's sexuality wasn't exactly portrayed that well.
To be fair, the issue were Jean reveals this, at least discussed the possibility of bisexuality, but stupidly rejects the possibility on spot.
This isn't well remembered, but the worst is that the change in Iceman's sexuality, might had been to further enable the Star Lord x Kitty romance - as Kitty previously was in a relationship with Bobby, and the writers wanted to somehow end it....I mean, then it would be a quite unfortunate reason to change a characters sexuality, and to use so a portrayal of homosexuality.

Yeah, I know. People use bisexuality to ship characters like Soi Fon (and at times, even **Chizuru**) from Bleach, or Pearl, who were portrayed as only interested in women, buqith men, and people aren't that offended at that.

Well, I fully agree with you, but the problem is this very screencap comic, is kinda created to provoke people...and I and few other people only responded to comments by others.
