FURBIES!?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!
They make me think of ‘Gremlins’….
http://sweetiebot.net/about/
Unlike the fanfic you read, the creator of this robopone certainly would want to avoid her getting hit by lightning, but a true A.I. could be implimented, however, as with computer, electronic, and memory limitations, she would have to have access to off-device storage capabilities. Think of things like Cozmo, Furby, and other electronic robotic toys. Furbies have a limited memory capacity that let them learn so much yet are able to “talk” to each other through infrared sensors in the front, Cozmo, on the other hoof, is connected to ones phone for remote control, communication, and other things. It is no doubt possible that if this Sweetie Bot had a dedicated computer system to be linked to wirelessly through BlueTooth, WiFi, or a proprietary and undiscoverable wireless means of communication (ie. Logitech’s wireless Unity transceivers), along with a high speed data transfer between storage medium and the robot, then it’s all in likelihood that she could develop her own A.I., know friend from foe, and other things that the creator can manage to do. And no rant from me, Kuro, stating all things that I know to be factual and up to date as I dabble with electronics, microcontroller programming, and computers quite often. Quite fun too.
There isn’t much to do in programming from the videos that I’ve seen, as for giving her a physical memory capable of analyzing surfaces, faces, and other things like Cosmo, it isn’t that much of a step to complete. Sweetie Bot was already programmed to talk, but in a standard robotic voice, for them to do a proper voice module, wouldn’t take much in itself. I’m saying all this from previous electronics microcontroller/microcomputer programming and if they wanted to take this far, they could…
Now for the programming.
