Some of the changelings sound like frail grandmas.

This is probably meaningless because the discussion is fairly old, but how about Esophagus or Tonsil since the background-ling is often seen eating? Rather, an insect part of the digestive system, since the changeling naming convention is often based on obscure and/or non-human body parts. <w<
Ooh, perhaps going for long periods in disguise causes them to get hunger pangs for the foods of the species they’re disguised as. A few days as a pony makes them want fruits and plants, as dragons, gems, et cetera. <w<
“New diet” could possibly refer to what Thorax has been eating instead of normal food in general. It was him, and him only, who complained about indigestion.
Maybe it’s something he ate, and he needs to know what’s suitable for him?
“New diet” could just mean “we’re trying to actually eat food-food now, too”.
Even if they still have to actually eat to live and don’t just get to live to eat, I think the ability to not feel a constant sensation of hunger would still be enough to justify them wanting to go through their transformation.
@Keith Mowz
That doesn’t explain the “new diet” comment from Thorax in Triple Threat. It’s clear love draining just isnt needed at all anymore.
The changeling pretending to be Applejack was eating a pear, not an apple.
There was a unreformed changeling pretending to be Applejack who was eating an apple in the S6 finale. I think changelings have always been able to eat physical food, the old forms were probably always hungry regardless of what they did like they were cursed.
I think the new changelings eat physically for fun or ceremonies, and sharing love sustains them. The once a week pot luck lunch seems to fit that bill perfectly.
As for Triple Threat I call inconsistency and leave it at that unless they decide to explain themselves. Too much plot went into them changing form to stop starving by sharing love, just to disregard it for a couple plot-driven comments in slice of life episodes talking about eating real food.
If you’re not about that game you can say Thorax was used to eating food in the Crystal Empire during his stay there half of last season, and he’s just used to eating physical food out of habit now after living with ponies for a while. Perhaps the bugs and things gave him indigestion compared to what he was used to.

Thorax mentioned indigestion possibly from new diet in Triple Threat, and when asked about going to eat he asked for the kitchen first thing. They don’t need love anymore, so its good ol physical food.
/i’ll get the linking to yt clips right one of these days…..

@Sene86
Beat me to it XD
People have been calling him “Soupling”
It sounds funny in a good way but it’s not very imaginative.
