Maybe on this particular version of Earth, in their universe, lifeforms don’t acquire nutrients in the womb through an umbilical cord but instead directly through osmosis, which may also have the slim possibility of also explaining why there are so many multi-colored Doug people in this particular Earth dimension; the color of their skin could be affected by what nutrients they absorb in the womb.
