well, things got_*really_* out of hand, and in the end daphne asked her god, peneus to protect her from apollo. he turned her into a laurel tree, so apollo couldn't lust after her any longer. this broke the curse, but could not be undone, so in apology, apollo blessed the laurel with evergreen leaves and declared it sacred, and never laughed at eros's powers again.
