Unlike with Dance of the Vampires musical, which you can watch on Count Monsparkle’s channel and figure out the story on your own, Count Orlov is unavailable to none-Russian viewers because it has never been translated and it doesn’t even have subtitles, so I’ll need to explain the story behind this artwork (the beginning of the story is described under the Count Orlov - musical concept art artwork, so check it out for more details).
After discovering that Princess Elizabeth (Trixie) is planning to take Catherine the Great’s (Celestia’s) crown and rule all over Russia, Orlov and his fleet planned to capture Elizabeth and deliver her straight to St. Petersburg to gain Catherine’s approval. After meeting Elizabeth in person Orlov noticed that he has strong feelings towards her and he tried to cancel his plan of capturing Elizabeth in order to save her instead. Unfortunately, he fails in doing that and escapes out of fear and Elizabeth spends an entire year in cold prison of Peter-Pavel’s Fortress. After one year, in January, Orlov decides to try one more time to save his love, Elizabeth. He comes to Catherine the Great and tries to convince her to release Elizabeth from prison. Catherine disapproves at first, but she changes her mind after seeing how desperate Orlov is. She gives him one night to convince Elizabeth to reveal her true name and tell that she has no royal blood in her veins. Orlov agrees to this condition and runs to Peter-Pavel’s Fortress to talk with Elizabeth. To the deepest misfortune, Elizabeth discovers that it was Orlov’s plan to capture her since the beginning and she sends him away with rage, telling that she has no other name but Elizabeth and she believes with whole soul that she has royal blood in her veins.
The dawn has come, Elizabeth has passed away in prison night after Orlov left. Now Orlov is desperate - with all his heart he hates himself for the mistake he made and now he wishes he could turn the time and go back to the moment before Elizabeth was captured and save her, but, unfortunately, he cannot do that, because it’s in no man’s power to turn the time…
