Remember how the skyline of the Crystal Empire changed when the magic powering its barrier stopped for even brief moments? How it changed from a sunny day to a stormy day/night or to a sunset-colored skyline of clouds?
 
That’s an artificial sky, and when it was disabled during Sombra’s full invasion, the sky was a sunset-like orange. By the time the blast of energy happened, it was likely night-time outside the artificial sky created by the barrier.
 
Not saying their planet isn’t round, but the “aurora crystialis” probably was as fast as it looked and it was simply night-time outside the magical barrier.

I think it’s more like “pushing” and readjusting the path of these skyballs more than continuously controlling their movement. So, less like telekinesis, and more like a forcepush I guess? That way, they aren’t always on “ON mode.”

You may be saying that’s obvious, but consider how this alters the whole “controlling the sun and moon” thing. For example, the night of Nightmare Moon’s return, the other side of the planet was locked in eternal day.

It also prove that the crystal empire is a very far away place to be on the opposite side of the planet.
