Although given how far episodes and such are made in advance, the cameo was likely mandated.
 
Plus the show actually directly contradicts the comics by showing that Discord starts to fade if he forces himself to be completely orderly, which deletes the entire Accord arc.

I like to tease, but yeah… these comics were specifically made to be canon, even if by their existance they show a clear desire for the IDW and Show staff to work together more.

Circumstantial info suggests the thingie at the end of the Shadow Lock arc will be seen one day. Besides that, product descriptions of the issues in question claim the arc will tie into Season 7. We’ll see, I suppose.

Main Series is the one that has had 0 nods in the show. The only times the show and comics ever linked was twice for FF (Babs’ cutie mark and the mention of Dash and Fluttershy going to a school reuinion) and LoM, which seems to be show originated given how long it takes for an episode. Hickley did do the designs for the LoM characters though.
 
And given the utter lack of oversight on the Main Series, don’t expect them to ever get mentioned in the show.

I can still ignore the Radiant hope story though right?
