You’re not too far off the mark, actually. In Act 1 Bunthorne reads his poetry to a rather unusual crowd of twenty groupies, a squad of Dragoon Guards, and the village milkmaid. The groupies all sigh and say what divine poetry Bunthorne’s work is. But the milkmaid’s response? “Well, to me it sounds like nonsense.”
