We kind of did, when the crystal heart started to glow just after she garbed it so did her cutiemark.
much before king sombra, it was their first ruler (and because she is not around, mortal).
And it would have been very nice to get something like, even as cliffnote in the show.
PS:I thought the exact same thing.
Princess Cadence is the heir to the Crystal Empire throne. Her family went into exile when Sombra took over, sparing them from the vanishing curse.
Her being an Alicorn and the crystal heart cutiemark gives this fact away.
That’s my guess.
