For some reason, a lot of people in the fandom seem to be completely unfamiliar with most television/movies and act as if MLP is the first to do anything.
I’m sure it will look a lot more imposing in the finished movie. Were there other instances of unfinished CGI in the trailer? They couldn’t have been as glaring as the airship.
Yeah, sorry, had to leave abruptly because I had an exam yesterday.
It’s just that I know I’m nit picking, because I am that kind of individual. And I can’t argue against what you say about people enjoying the movie regardless because… Well… Who am I to dictate what others will or not enjoy? But I really find it odd that this is an industry standard that is considered acceptable.
Originally my comment wasn’t about the movie but I ended up turning it into one because it was the nearest examples on my memory. I won’t deny my lack of knowledge about the medium because I really don’t watch a lot of shows nor movies so I was pretty curious (and I’ll admit, unnecessarily upset) about why when people were complaining about it others pointed that it was okay because it happens all the time.
And while I can’t really argue about this movie my question still stands unanswered.
@cloudkicker108
I can concede that (tho I’d rather they just rebuild the entire thing :P). But they also showed non important scenes using that unfinished animation tech. Why show those?
Not needed. Already resolved.
The trailer as it is wouldn’t have made sense without it. They would have had to restructure the entire trailer If they were to avoid showing that for what amounted to only a mere few seconds.
@Ihhh
Wow, that was unexpected.
Okay.
The only people who care about unfinished animation in trailers are nitpickers like you. General audiences likely won’t care, and fans are going to see it anyway.
That it also looks pretty bad and could have been opted to not be shown on the trailer made to make the movie look appealing?
Also, that scene importance is not necessarily the reason the people behind the trailer picked some of these portions of the movie to show off. They could have put more focus on the storm breaking on Canterlot (which looks okay) or the Storm Army falling down and commencing their attack (which looks awesome), but they picked this instead (I’d bet it was just to make the balloon joke).

What does that have to do with this scene?
The windmill didn’t look that important to me.
Remember that this is a very important scene, and that it would break the flow to not use it just because it was unfinished.
They could also not show it.
Is there a syndicate rule that states they MUST show bad early CG in their trailers? Or that it must last a certain amount of time? Because it’s not only this movie that does it.
You might want to read the comments below. CGI is usually one of the last things completed for a movie, so movie trailers often show incomplete CGI effects. As for why the would show things like that, it’s likely that there was nothing better to put in its place and removing it entirely would change the effect. It’s not like that specific airship was front and center, anyhow.
Oh goody another excuse to play this GIF

Think of an example
“Lets put the stuff that looks like junk into the trailer specifically designed to hype the people for our product!”
