It’s heavily implied in the episode they’re no longer around, in that the only way the Big Macintosh, Applejack, and Apple Bloom can learn about their parents is asking other ponies about them.
More to the point, I feel like the whole point of the episode would have been about finding them, not asking other ponies about how they met.
