Oh, c’mon, guys, he may have taken the part so he could have a villainous role in a movie that his kids could see, but, it’s still Liev Schreiber. Why assume that he’s not the real villain? Why can’t he just be a big bad that can be fun?

if this is storm king’s personality, I’m calling strife as the true villain.

Prequel stuff like this (as well as novelizations) tend to be based off of earlier drafts. It was probably a bit unfair of me to write it off simply because it’s IDW though.

Not sure where you heard that, but Abyssinia was briefly mentioned by Discord in the “Glass of Water” song. Though if it’s indeed the land of cat people, I wonder if it’s supposed to have some kind of double-meaning relating to cats.
 
EDIT: Ohhhh, I get it now. An Abyssinian is a breed of cat! And wouldn’t you know it, Capper looks just like an Abyssinian!

I’m curious how Schreiber will act in the movie. The way this character is sounding so far, I’d probably be expecting this kind of acting from Peter Dinklage instead Schreiber. IDK why.

I sorta have mixed feelings about this. Well it’s neat to see an MLP villain (other than Discord) have a fun side, I hope they’re not gonna go over the top with it.

and it kinda fits. he is a consquerer but not so evil as to be needlessly cruel. that sorta stuff seems avoided in equestria.

Sounds likely. Also, I thought the name sounded familiar, turns out Abyssinia has been mentioned before. The mane 6 once went there to prevent a major Ursa attack (and saved Equestria in the process). Abyssinia is also infamous for suing.
 
I guess this mean Storm King’s invasion is fairly recent. And that he’s getting closer to Equestria…

Well, it’s nice to know he actually appreciates the work his lackeys do. You don’t see many villains thanking their minions.

Technically he could be an Umbrum who has altered his appearance, as they do have that ability. Only magic like that of Princess Cadance can force them to assume their true forms. Also we already know the Umbrum were not native to the Crystal Empire and invaded, so that means that they had to come from somewhere else. There could have been more Umbrum besides the ones who got imprisoned in the Crystal Empire in their homeland and elsewhere.
 
However this guy looks like he could be a sentient storm cloud monster. It would fit the theme. If they do decide to go with Umbrum that would have some interesting implications.

Well the movie portrayal of the character is the only portrayal of the character so far that predates this one, so its the only one they have to base him off of. If it was different from the movie, that would litteraly mean that they made up his character without knowing the movie.
