I know some were expecting a main Pokemon game to be released on the Switch this year(Pokemon Stars), but it was too early for that.
My guess is that it’s going to be gen 8 and then gen 4 remake
I’m always keeping the expect the unexpected mindset.
But who knows what we’re getting for the main series.

Then hope you get lucky on Christmas or your birthday before the new game arrives. Also don’t expect Gen 8 or Gen 4 remakes, Pokemon is always aiming for unexpected choices for main series games to throw us off.
