Leaning is how real bicycles are steered unless at ridiculously low speed, too.

Also, the downside of this design is the same downside real pedals-on-wheel-axle bicycles have: they have to be manufactured individually for each user. The chain and independent pedal axle was a breakthrough that allowed common, adjustable design (also gear ratios).
