Description

The Don’ts:

-Literally all of the colors and even the hairstyle are copy-pasted from her parents.
-Full-rainbow manes are a really lazy way to handle Rainbow Dash fanfoals; very few IF ANY can make it work.
-Heterocromia; very few make it work and for those who don’t it’s just lazy, in my opinion.
-The cutie mark is super generic; it’s literally the Wonderbolts symbol with Dash’s colors slapped on.
-Way too many SoarinDash foals have a generic personality, like “they’re is a fast flier like their parents and they want to be a Wonderbolt”.

The Dos:

-The colors are more original and the hairstyle is unique while still staying true to her parents.
-Instead of a copy-pasted light blue coat, she inherited a deeper purple from her grandfather. Inheritance from other family members always makes the fanfoal more original!
-Instead of a full rainbow, her hair is made up of only a few select colors (in this case it’s the primary colors).
-Both eyes are the same color; somewhat of a variation of her dad’s. Also notice that she has a unique eye shape.
-The cutie mark is less cliche and so is the talent behind it. How many SoarinDash foals are good at things OTHER than flying and athletics?
-She has a well-thought out and unique personality/backstory that sharply deviates from most Rainbow Dash foals.

Keep this in mind when designing a fanfoal of your own! Most of these tips apply to all fanfoals and not just SoarinDash kids. Don’t be afraid to deviate from the norm a little and just remember (well-thought-out and realistic) constructive criticism is your friend!

I think heterocromia could work if one or both parents are Draconequus but yeah, I have to agree with you that in most cases, it tends to look off.

This is clearly just two ponies fused together, not a child. That’s not how children work; if the father has brown hair and the mother is blonde, that doesn’t make the hair half brown, half blonde, nor does it gradient from brown to blonde.

Love SoarinDash, but don’t like offspring OCs.
However, someone’s thinking and I approve this.

Yeah, same. I really dislike offspring OCs (especially if it’s a canon x OC one), but this is a good guideline if you’re going to do one. Much better than simply slapping the coat color from one with the mane of the other and calling it their kid. Super, super lazy.
