One of my headcanons is that, back when Spike was still a hatchling, he was something of “child star” in Canterlot, because ponies had never seen a dragon up close before. To spare Spike the unwanted attention, Celestia put him to work in the Royal libraries out of the public eye, which is where we find him at the start of Season 1. Spike’s image was heavily merchandised, though, meaning you can still find Spike memorabilia in Canterlot shops among the collectables and nostalgia items.

Spike themed merchandise is probably big in the Crystal Empire. Maybe she bought it from there.

I remember Sweetie Belle has a stuffed toy that looks like Spike. Maybe that thing’s mass produced. Hundreds of little ponies probably sleep with that toy.

Don’t you know? That is how he and Twilight fund everything. Merch they sale through unconventional channels and the like. All under the table and tax free.

I think that’s Spike’s tooth brush. It would be freaky if that really was Starlight’s tooth brush because she likes the idea of her tooth brush looking like Spike… Or Spike being in her mouth… Or Spike actually has a huge line of merch and toys themed around himself and the guy is making lots of money out of it.

I’m oddly fond of the second one.

I’ve got a couple implications here:
 
1: Spike was turned into a toothbrush (and likely will end up swabbing Starlight’s mouth)
 
2: Starlight really likes spike and got a toothbrush in his image.

I feel like this deserves a “semi-grimdark”.

This is probably Spike’s fetish. Good for him.

More likely she needed an excuse to teleport in and grabbed the first thing she saw,which was spike’s toothbrush.

… I’d believe it.

In her defense, this isn’t even the weirdest thing she’s turned him into. This week.
