Where you are home she pretends to be a inanimate book end.
When you leave she comes alive and reshelfs your book case either alphabetically or by subject.

Standard episode plot:
The cast “come to life” and investigate whatever “Maguffin” has been dropped off by an off screen little girl.
Professor Yaffle (a woodpecker, made out of wood) makes some failed attempt to guess WTF it is/does.
The mice actually work out WTF it really is/does.
The mice then do an adorable Umpa Loompa style clean-up job.
There’s usually a song or story at this stage, usually stop motion of some kind.
Then Bagpuss…. yawns.

I’m not sure what you are referencing there, but this Twilight reminds me of Professor Yaffle from Bagpuss. (An old Childrens program from long ago in the UK)
